"Jesus Praying In The Garden" Wood Carving, Farsider's Carvings

Our son spent a number of years as a Catholic Seminarian. When he was ordained I was going to carve a crucifixion for him. But as life would have it, He just before being ordained as a Deacon decided that becoming a Priest wasn't the life he really wanted for himself.
Our son John married a lovely young lady, Emily, yesterday.
For a wedding gift, I wanted to carve a meaningful gift for the two of them. A religiously themed gift. I wanted to take my time and with my limited skills, try my best to make it a piece of art. I spent well over 2 months off and on trying my best to get it to where I felt like I wanted it to be.
I have to thank several fellow carvers out there that guided me and pointed me in the right direction and even a friend or two that provided artistic advice when needed. You all know who you are.
The Carving is of Jesus Praying In The Garden. I hope that I did the scene with the love and the respect it deserves and that those feelings are always there for my son, daughter in law and their family to come, as the time/years go by.
I really like carving with walnut. What a beautiful wood to work with. It just adds so much character in my opinion, to whatever piece I carve.

Mohawk Santa Wood Carving by Farsider's Carvings

A while back while scanning the interwebs for Santa carving ideas, I had saved an image from a free wood carving pattern site. I thank the designer of this pattern. No name came along with it nor did a search of the image bring any results. Credit for a design should go to the original designer.
I really enjoyed carving up my version of this cool Santa Claus.
I call him, Mohawk Santa. He is bigger than my regular carving. He stands 6,5" tall, 3.25" wide and 2" thick. I did a glue up of 5/4 white pine to achieve the rough out size that I needed.

Thanks for visiting.

A Mooning Garden Gnome Wood Carving

I had an advertisement come across my Facebook page one day. It was a Gnome made by Toscano Design or something like that. It was a Garden Gnome made from a composite material and I thought it would be a great carving idea.
So here is my version.

Homemade Toy Lumber Truck

This is a really cool wooden truck that I have made from kiln dried hem fir with plans that I purchased from Toymaker.com.

The Tractor and the trailer are 2 different pieces as is illustrated in the pictures. The overall length of truck and trailer is 15.75". It is 3.5" wide and 4" tall. The tractor itself is 9" long and the trailer is 9.5" long.

I used a dark stain on the running boards, mud flaps, and wheels. The tractor, trailer and the 10 lengths of post lumber on the bed have been finished with a furniture grade Polyurethane.

I bent a couple pieces of heavy gauge tie wire for the hold downs for the lumber to the bed.

Homemade Toy Dump Truck

I have built so many things in my life. From very high-end homes to making some very interesting wood carvings.
This little homemade Dump Truck project though is one of the most fun and enjoyable projects That I can ever recall doing and it's fun to play with.
 Homemade toys are incredible.
These would be fun on a Pinewood Derby track.
I built it from Hemfir. It is 10" long by 3.5" wide. I used 3 different stains to create variety and used several coats of furniture grade polyurethane for the finish.
I did not make the treaded wheels and axle pins.
