Mohawk Woodcarvings

These little birdies are 2.5" tall and 1" in diameter.

Rag Doll Wood Carvings

Set #2

Any opinions appreciated.

These wood carvings are 5.5" tall, X 2.5" wide and carved from 3/4" reclaimed material.

I personally like the facial expressions much better on this set.

Shop Talk, A Thing Of The Past?

Shop Talk

Shop Talk part 1-
I had a good day to mow yesterday with my mower, a push mower, 6.5 hp Craftsman. Briggs and Stratton engine. The RPMs all of a sudden shot way up over the recommended 3200 rpms. I checked the spring on the governor, forward and back adjustment doesn't do anything, linkage feels stiff that is going under the governor, Maybe I'll shoot some carb cleaner under there this morning and manually try to loosen it up. RPMs slow down if I manually move that linkage.

Shop Talk part 2-
With all the people I know on Facebook, only one person responded to talk shop?
Damn! I love talking shop. Beats bitching about politics. No wonder the majority of youth today don't know anything about changing their own oil, replacing a thermostat, a starter, a water pump, a battery, clearing clogged plumbing beyond a plunger or drain cleaner, how to hang a paper towel holder.
It's our own fault because we stopped talking shop with one another or our families. With social media, we should see more shop talk of everyday challenges. Not just group shop talks.
It sucks that I no longer have a father or grandfather to turn to for advice. They loved talking shop.

Part 3-. This gets interesting.

So I went out this morning, took the top cover off the mower to access the governor spring and sprayed the linkage.
Shop talk continued.
So I sprayed the linkage with no new results. I did spot a little piece of frayed cotton twine from under the flywheel.
I had my suspicions since a roll of twine I use for gardening has been missing. No, I didn't mow over a roll of twine.
The following pictures confirmed my suspicion.

You may or may not want to zoom in here for the following photos to see the cause of my mechanical issues.

I don't have a tachometer so here's the mower running as I started putting it back together and adjusted the governor.

See how great Shop Talk can be?

Rag Doll Wood Carvings

A WIP. I like the Rag Doll look and I like the idea of utilizing a lot of scrap 1X material that I have left over from work.
I make so many items from a males perspective. I would hope that a daughter or granddaughter might like this.

Thanks for the visit.

Just Off The Bench, Mustang II

Just Off The Bench, Mustang II.

You will probably notice a few small changes compared to Mustang 1 from a few blogs back. But what may not be noticeable is that Mustang II id about a third of the size of Mustang I too. I scaled the whole project down. I wanted to be able to cut and carve the wings from a piece of 1" X 6" so that I could rip the material into 1/2 thickness. I refuse to make the wings for a whirligig out of plywood and then place it outdoors.
Mustang I, the wings at the widest point measured 11" from front to back. Mustang II's measure just under 4".
I think that the 1'2" wings look so much better.

And just to let those that don't know me know, Most builds or carvings that I do are done with reclaimed wood. The Mustangs, for example, are being built from the scrap I had left from making shutters for a job that I had done recently. I hate throwing wood into a dumpster.

I didn't go with the crazy numbering this time.
I also used a better Decoupage Technique.

Mirage Rehab. Barnegat NJ

We have been rehabbing a Club House for a Senior Citizen Community. We have been doing the work in stages.
I have been posting pictures at the end of each phase. This is the completion of Phase 2.
Mirage in Barnegat NJ. Barnegat is known for what's called Barnegat Light which is the name for a Lighthouse on Long Beach Island NJ.
