See, I Have Stuff Growing

I do not have very much space and this year I managed to squeeze in over 100 tomato plants of several different types.
The sad part is, I may be moving in the next month or two and I may not reap all the rewards. We will be moving into a bigger house so the project in the years to come will to find the space and build gardens again. Hopefully the work I will be doing to fix this place up and sell will give me the chance to see the growing season through.

  1. Wow mac, this reminds me of my moms gardens growing up in Chicago. Not much room, but enough to have a bit of everything in there, and room for flowers to boot!!!!! BTW.........LOVE the greenhouse.......did you make it???

  2. I built that about 5 years ago Sue. I finally found a place online over the winter to buy actual green house plastic so I fixed it up and painted it green for this year. It's not much but suits its purpose. Right now I have about 20 potted pepper plants in it.

  4. I have always wanted a greenhouse but just never considered myself mechanically inclined enough to attempt one, lol. Looks like everything is growing well for you Mac....I tilled up a new area for a garden last fall but have had so much rain this year I only got half of it planted....hmmm wonder if I can still plant more corn?....

  6. Corn grows fast Vic. We usually did a second planting after our first was picked. The first picking always ended about mid July. The 2nd crop would be ready around mid september.

  17. That looks like the kind of fencing we made cages for our beefsteak tomatoes...We also put a couple smelts in the hole first and then the plant..Boy they loved the fish fertilizer...lol We also didn't pinch off any suckers/side shoots we just let them grow wild. Man tomatoes coming out our ears.
    I luv your garden Mac.

  21. Misty, I hope you and Suzi don't smoke my tomato plants. Those tomato cages are made with 6"x6" wire mesh that we use for concrete slabs for reinforcement. Vero already answered the question as to why I used the pots. I only remove the suckers from my staked tomato plants. I get earlier and bigger tomatoes for doing it. Not as many though.

  23. Yall' I'm pretty positive this is a coneflower (echinacea) just coming into bloom. It could be either white or purple, cause the purple ones sometimes look white til they are fully out.
