Did you ever see one of these?

These things make such a racket. I usually find there remains but have only seen a few live ones.

  5. It is a shell from either a locust or what we call a "jar fly" ( an annual, summertime cicada)

  6. Most likely its the latter unless this was "Locust Year" in Mac's little corner of New Jersey.

  9. It is a Cicada. They are actually suppose to live under ground for close to 15 to 17 years and they come above ground to breed and then die.

  10. They are pretty noisy, but it's kind of a nice summertime sound. I've seen a few "shells" in my yard. And, holes in the ground where they came up.
